Cops still to trace 'abducted' Sion tot
A day prior to their next court hearing, Mohan and Mohini Nerurkar sounded just as apprehensive about finding their lost baby boy as they did when they first came to court on January 19.
"The police called us to identify four to five women but they were not the ones," said Mohan on Monday. "Three women whom the police brought before us, we've seen them before selling clothes at the Gandhi market. None of them were at Sion Hospital that day," added Mohini.
The three-day-old child of Mohan and Mohini Nerurkar went missing on January 1 from Sion Hospital. The Bombay High Court had come down heavily on the state government and the BMC that runs the hospital for such a lapse. Advocates for the Nerurkars, Ashish Chavan and Amit Karkhanis, had said that there was nobody in the hospital to look after Mohini's child, who was allegedly picked up by a woman. The court has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
"The police showed us a baby once. But it was not my child. My child was fairer and had mark on his back and hair on his forehead and arms," said Mohini.
Police inspector Shantanu Pawar said the baby was found by the Chembur police. "We have issued a fresh sketch of the woman and sent it to all police stations and railways stations," he said.
