Cops Shoot Armed Man in Downtown Brooklyn

Cops shot a 34-year-old man on Saturday when he refused the orders to drop the gun that he pointed towards two uniformed NYPD officers in Downtown Brooklyn.

The suspect had a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun that he removed from his waistband.

The police said that at about 12:50 a. m. the gunman brandished a silver handgun before he was shot in the lower torso around Nassau St. and Bridge St. near the Manhattan Bridge.

The authorities said that two uniformed officers came in an unmarked car in front of 189 Nassau St., got out and encountered two men. One of them got on the ground whereas the other man pulled out the pistol as he took off running down the block.

The officials said that both cops fired at the suspect, hitting him once and later took him to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

A witness named David lived nearby and said that he heard gunshots ring out. He said that he was lying on his bed when suddenly he heard somebody shouting outside and then, 'Pop, pop, pop, pop!' Four or five shots, but later realized that there were around four or five shots.

He continued, "Then I go to the window and I see the cops coming, crouching from behind a car and the guy lying on the ground in pain".

According to the witness, the suspected person was moaning like, 'You shot me in my heart" and then the cops kicked the gun away from him.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information (DCPI) statement, the suspect is still in the police custody with charges pending.

The injured officers went under treatment for tinnitus at Methodist Hospital.
