The Congress on Thursday said an inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of funds in the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) had established that state unit treasurer Deepak Gupta had failed to discharge his duties.

The inquiry was conducted on the request of UPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi as Gupta had failed to submit his report to the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Joshi removed Gupta on September 23, following reports that saids funds worth crores for the Lok Sabha polls had been diverted to other works.
