New Delhi [India], Apr. 1 : Telecom operator Idea Cellular on Friday launched its 4G services in Assam circle, starting with five towns, namely Jorhat, Tezpur, Nagaon, Bongaigaon and Lumding, and is looking to further expand 4G network to cover 13 towns including Guwahati, by April 2017.
Idea also unveiled Digital Idea, a suite of digital applications for consumers in Assam. As part of the Digital Idea offerings, the company will offer a suite of three entertainment apps - Idea Music Lounge, Idea Movie Club and Idea Game Spark for its 13 lakh customers in Assam.
New Delhi [India], Mar. 20 : Idea Cellular on Monday announced that the board has approved its merger of Vodafone India Limited (VIL) and its wholly-owned subsidiary Vodafone Mobile Services Limited (VMSL) with itself, thus paving way for the creation of India's largest telecom entity.
As per minutes of the meeting held earlier today, Vodafone will hold 45 percent in the combined entity. Idea promoters will hold 26 percent in the combined entity.
Vodafone will own 45.1 percent of the company after transferring a stake to the Promoters of Idea for Rs. 38.74 billion in cash, post completion of the amalgamation.
New Delhi [India], Jan. 27 : Telecom operator Idea Cellular is set to launch a variety of apps across movies, TV, music, games and others next week as part of its bid to transform into a full-fledged digital services company, in competition to the new entrant- Reliance Jio Infocomm.
"As we leapfrog from being a voice and data services provider to becoming a full service digital solutions company, we continue to deliver on our promise of 'changing lives' and become the catalyst in fuelling the Digital India movement," said Managing Director of Idea Cellular, Himanshu Kapania.
He said that the company plans to cater to the demands of Indians driven by entertainment and of the 'on-the-move' online generation.
New Delhi [India], Jan 13 : Telecom operator Idea Cellular on Friday announced its plans to raise Rs. 500 crore through issuance of non-convertible debentures.
The telecom company is proposing to issue unsecured redeemable non-convertible debentures amounting to Rs 500 crore on private placement basis.
Idea in a regulatory filing today announced its plan is to issue NCDs on January 17 on National Stock Exchange on which it is offering 7.77 percent annual interest.
"The date of maturity for these NCDs will be January 17, 2022. This would be the third fund raising round by Idea within a period of two months. Idea raised Rs. 1,500 crore on December 13 and Rs. 1,000 crore on January 4 through issue of debentures on private placement," added the regulatory filing. (ANI)
New Delhi: Extending its portfolio of 3G smartphones to 16, Idea Cellular has launched another device for Rs 4,999, which comes bundled with data benefits.
The country's third largest operator has already sold over 7 lakh devices from its earlier range of 3G smartphones.
"Idea is the only mobile operator in the country to offer a vast array of affordable 3G devices which is targeted at upgrading 2G users to 3G. With the launch the new device, Idea's portfolio of 3G smartphones has gone up to 16, and the company has already sold over 7 lakh devices from its earlier range," Idea Cellular said in a statement.
Shares of well-established telecom operators like Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications Ltd came under pressure after cash-rich Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) announced its decision to participate in the upcoming spectrum auction.
Investors have concerns that RIL's entry into the field could cut into incumbent players' profits in the future.
RIL's decision to participate in the upcoming 2G spectrum auction has raised the prospect of fierce bidding and intensifying competition in a market, where margins are already low.
Vodafone India and Idea Cellular, on Friday, were asked to immediately stop providing 3G services and pay a penalty of Rs 550 crore and Rs 300 crore, respectively, in circles where they do not have spectrum.
In March, the department of telecom (DoT) had issued a similar order to Bharti Airtel. The country's largest telecommunications firm had been asked to stop offering 3G services in circles where it didn't own spectrum, along with a penalty of Rs 350 crore.
On Friday, The Aditya Birla group company Idea Cellular said in a statement that the company has cited a 12% loss in the consolidated net profit as the figures reached to Rs 177.26 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2011 despite telecom operator's high interest and amortization expenses with the introduction of 3G services in this quarter.
The officials confirmed that to acquire 3G spectrum for 11 circles, Idea Cellular has shelled out an amount of Rs. 5,700 core and also amortization and interest costs this quarter costed the company Rs. 200 crore.
The Idea Cellular Ltd. was planning to legalize 9,000 telecom towers which it owned individually and not in collaboration with Bharti Airtel Ltd. The Indian section of U. K.'s Vodafone Group Plc, predicted that the legalization of these towers was going too result in an earnings of 54 billion rupees, which would help the company clear off all its debts.

With the Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) having found as many as 15 firms running misleading ads from July to October this year, the ASCI has reprimanded them for violating the council’s code.
As per the Economic Times, the companies that have been pulled up by the ASCI include telecom firms like Reliance Communications and Idea Cellular; fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company Dabur; and Elder Pharma; and the Career Launcher coaching centre.
