Coalition cash to Afghans lead military to Taliban weapons caches
Kabul- Afghan and US-led coalition forces succeeded in seizing a weapons cache in a cave in northern Afghanistan, officials said on Friday.
A statement issued from US base in Bagram airbase near Kabul, said an Afghan man assisted Afghan and Coalition security forces in uncovering more than 325 pieces of ammunition when he led them to a weapons cache in a cave in a northern province.
The statement however, didn't specify the exact location.
The man will receive a monetary reward for the information he provided, as part of the Small Rewards Program, the statement said.
Approximately 65,000 dollars has been paid to individuals who have provided information resulting in locating and destroying weapons caches throughout Afghanistan, it added.
According to the statement, Afghan and Coalition forces have been able to locate or destroy more than 7,000 weapon caches with the help intelligence gained from people in local villages.
Meanwhile, one suspected militant was detained Thursday during a joint search operation in activities in Gorbuz district of south- eastern Khost province, Coalition forces said in a separate statement.
"Afghan and Coalition forces conducted a search of compounds in Gorbuz district, targeting a militant Improvised Explosive Device (IED) cell member known to have conducted attacks on Coalition and Afghan security forces," it added. (dpa)
