Cloud Computing aids in solving cyber crimes
It comes as a warning for all those spammers who use cloud computing services, as catching them has become much easier, says Google.
The FBI agents stealthily got hold of incriminating spreadsheets from diet supplement-peddling spammers' and pounced on them. The case which was highlighted in the same direction involved a search warrant which allowed FBI to acquire the files from Google directly, as opposed to the normal procedure of showing up at the spammers' residence and snatching their hard drives.
This move is being questioned by the groups like EFF who claim that theirs an ambiguity in obtaining the warrant to seize cloud data. According to the 1986 Stored Communications Act, which speak of the individual rights, allows the access to an individual's cloud data where there are "reasonable grounds" for the same. To obtain a search warrant for one's physical hard drives requires a solid cause.
To this, Google spokesperson added that an effort to inform users when their data is requested by a third party, to which the spammer defendants opposed of receiving none.
