CIC to AIIMS: why a private doctor was allowed to conduct cardiac surgery on PM?

CIC to AIIMS: why a private doctor was allowed to conduct cardiac surgery on PM?The Central Information Commission (CIC) has asked the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to reveal why it allowed a private doctor, Ramakant Panda to conduct cardiac surgery on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The CIC has asked the AIIMS to disclose the information, under the RTI (Right to Information).

An RTI applicant, Jagdish Chander Jetli had asked AIIMS why it brought a private surgeon to conduct Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's cardiac surgery, when the hospital has enough expertise and the facilities to do so on its own. After finding the response of AIIMS unsatisfactory, Jetli approached CIC.

The CIC has now asked AIIMS to reveal why Dr Ramakant Panda and his team from Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai was allowed to perform the cardiac surgery on Manmohan Singh. Annapurna Dixit, the Information Commissioner, has directed the AIIMS provide the right information to the appellant by June 20.
