China's Huawei unveils new handsets
In the midst of all the talks about the security threats that Chinese mobile handsets could be to India, Huawei Technologies on Thursday unveiled its new line of handsets.
This is their entry into the Indian markets and the company is one of the most tracked once during the security investigation.
Meanwhile, the new line has 20 new handsets. Till now, Huawei was only selling handsets bundled with services like Tata Teleservices and BSNL.
Talking to media, Huawei Device Chief Marketing Officer Victor Xu said that the Indian telecom sector is growing with the rate of 20 million subscribers every month. The company is trying to tap this side.
It has launched its handsets under the banner of two brands- Hangout and Android. Both these are going to use the chipset solutions of Qualcomm and will be priced from Rs. 2,000.
They are going to enter the market from August.
As for the government directive asking the equipment makers to submit their security codes, he said that they have received the notification and are going through it.
