China urges more help for developing nations at G20 summit

China urges more help for developing nations at G20 summit Beijing  - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday urged leaders of the world's 20 major economies to prioritise help for developing nations at the G20 summit next month in London.

"Developing countries are the worst hit in the financial crisis, however their difficulties tend to be easily neglected," Wen told reporters.

He said China hoped the needs of the least developed countries would not be ignored because of the global financial crisis, arguing that "poverty in these countries is also a factor behind the concerns of developed countries and the instability of the world."

It was important for all nations to stick to the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals for cutting extreme poverty by 2015, Wen said at the close of the annual National People's Congress, China's nominal parliament.

Developed nations must continue to provide financial assistance and policy support to developing nations, he said. (dpa)
