Jinan (China), Aug. 7 : The former chairman and general manager of the Capital Airports Holding Company (CAH) Li Peiying, who was convicted for taking bribes and embezzlement of state funds, was executed on Friday in Jinan, China.

Earlier, the Shandong Provincial Higher People''s Court had upheld Li's death sentence. The Supreme Court had also reviewed the sentence, which is mandatory before it is enforced, The Chinaview reported.

Li was sentenced at Jinan Intermediate People''s Court on February 6 after being convicted of accepting bribes of 26.61 million yuan from 1995 to 2003 and misappropriating 82.5 million yuan for personal use from 2000 to 2003.

Following the conviction, Li had appealed to the Shandong Provincial Higher People''s Court, but the provincial court rejected his appeal and upheld the death penalty.

CAH, is a wholly owned entity of the Civil Aviation Administration of China which operates airports. It manages the flagship Beijing Capital Airport in Beijing along with 29 other airports in nine provinces and also has more than 38,000 staff. (ANI)
