China, EU set to hold Beijing-cancelled summit in May

China, EU set to hold Beijing-cancelled summit in May Beijing - A China-EU summit, which had been cancelled by Beijing following a row over Tibet in December, will be held in Prague in May, officials said Thursday.

Beijing had scotched the summit after a meeting between French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who then held the rotating EU presidency, and the Dalai Lama.

The current Czech EU presidency suggested the meeting to be held in Prague in mid-May, officials told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

While the dates have not been confirmed officially by China, both sides agreed during a visit of Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to Brussels in January to hold the summit before July 1 when the EU presidency passes to Sweden. (dpa)
