China announce new internet law to eliminate anonymityAuthorities in China have come up with a new law to govern the internet aimed at eliminating anonymity online and to expand control of the government over the medium.

A draft update of the government's "Methods for Governance of Internet Information Services" showed that government is planning to expand the official definition of Internet information service providers in order to include online forums, blogs and microblogs that are often used to criticize the authorities and spread uncensored materials.

Te new rules will also require microblog operators, like Sina Corp and Tencent Holdings to get administrative licenses in order to continue to run the popular online services in the country. The government is increasingly looking to control the internet, especially the microblogs or Weibos as it gets ready for a once in a decade change in leadership.

The draft states that the Internet information service providers that allow users to post comments online should make sure that they have their real identity data registered. Forum and blog users in China are not now required to register with their real names.

The draft on the ways to government the internet information service in China is open for public views until July 6.
