Chak De! India Sweeps Nine Awards At IIFA

Farah Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ has won five trophies at this year’s Chak De! India Sweeps Nine Awards At IIFA International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards function held at the Siam Niramit complex in Bangkok.

The award function was hosted by Ritesh Deshmukh, Urmila Matondkar and Boman Irani.

On the other hand, Mani Ratnam’s ‘Guru’ won two awards - one for best background score (A.R. Rahman) and best song recording (H. Sridhar).

Anurag Basu (Life in a Metro) and Jaideep Sahni (Chak De! India) won the best screenplay award jointly. The best director's award goes to Shimit Amin for Chak De. Superstar Shahrukh Khan won the Best Actor award for the film. The movie swept nine honors at the awards function.

However, King Khan was not present at the gala and his award was collected by Yash Chopra.

Imtiyaz Ali garnered award for best dialogue writing for "Jab We Met", while Kareena Kapoor awarded the Best Actress for the same movie.

Shaan (Jab se tere naina in Saawariya) and Shreya Ghosal (Barso re megha in Guru) were adjudged the best playback singers.

Shyam Benegal and Mumtaz were the recipients of lifetime achievement awards.

Other outstanding awards were Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone as best debutant actors and Viveik Oberoi, who won the award for the best Negative Role for Shootout at Lokhandwala. Ifran Khan and Konkana Sen Sharma were declared the best actor and actress in a supporting role. The Fresh Face of the year trophy was given to Neil Nitin Mukesh for his debut film ‘Johnny Gaddar.’

Abhishek Bachchan and Katrina Kaif were awarded the style icons. Newcomer Ranbir Kapoor got the best debutant actor award for his performance in Saawariya while Deepika Padukone received the best debutant award for ‘Om Shanti Om’. Akshay Kumar was awarded the IIFA honour from Thailand.
