Centre proposes to construct 11 new foodgrain godowns in Assam
New Delhi, Jan 24 : The Centre has proposed to construct eleven new foodgrain godowns in different locations in Assam to strengthen the public distribution system in the state.
Besides this, additional storage capacity will also be created at three existing locations in the state.
According to an official release, once constructed, these Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns will add foodgrain storage capacity of 3,47,000 MT in the state of Assam.
Out of this a capacity of 7000 MT will be created within the three existing complexes of FCI in the state.
The godowns will come up at Changsari (Phase I & II - 50,000 MT in each phase); Nowgaon (Phase I & II - 25,000 MT in each phase); Dibrugarh (25,000 MT); Barpeta Road (25,000 MT); Karimganj (5,000 MT); Fakiragram (5,000 MT); Tezpur Bindukuri (25,000 MT); Salchapara (25,000 MT); Kokrajhar (30,000 MT); Bongoigaon (25,000 MT) and Junai (25,000 MT).
Additional storage capacity will be created at Hojai (2,500 MT); New Lakhimpur (2,500 MT) and Jogigopa (2,000 MT). (ANI)
