CDMA players too will have auctioning system for 3G spectrum allocation
A new decision has been taken up by Telecom Commission, which has modified the 3G policy for CDMA players. It has now opted for auctioning system for the players of CDMA too. Prior to this, DoT had expressed to allot spectrum to the CDMA players in the 800 MHz band based on the total number of subscribers. This would have indirectly provided profit to CDMA biggies including RCom.
There are basically three categories of circles, the prices of which have been allotted by the Telecom Commission. For metros the base price in the 800 MHz band would be Rs 40 crore, as well as for category ‘A’ circle. For category ‘B’ circle and ‘C’ circle, the price would be Rs 20 crore and Rs 7.5 crore respectively.
Trai and COAI’s had earlier called for a review of the policy related to this issue, to see whether it will ensure level playing field or not, and this revised policy is also in line with them.
Shyam, another CDMA player may also be benefited with this new development, who is in alliance with Sistema, Russian based company which is thriving hard to establish itself in India. RCom can also challenge from Tata Teleservices now.
