CDC says your heart is possibly much older than you think
The CDC's Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention researchers planned to estimate the heart age of American adults to determine if the ages varied according to where they live, education level, income, and racial and ethnic backgrounds or not. The report found that an average American man has a heart 7.8 years older as compared to his age. As per the CDC, on the basis of data received, 75% of Americans have heart ages older than their actual age.
CDC researchers said body mass index for indicating obesity is one of the risks, as are high blood pressure, cigarette smoking and diabetes status. The CDC defined, "Coronary heart age' is the calculated age of an individual's cardiovascular system based mostly on his or her danger issue profile".
The result of having heart age older than the biological age in most of the people is very bad because heart plays a very important role in the life maintenance.
In the US, every year, around 800,000 people lose their lives because of heart-related illnesses and costs the country nearly $320 billion annually. The CDC has recommended cholesterol control, regular exercise and a healthy diet but the Framingham calculator does not include these factors.
Frieden said it is never too late, mentioning that a 50-year-old smoker who quits smoking can gain 14 years of heart life. Frieden mentioned that you can bring down the risk of cancer by keeping your heart young.
