Nairobi/Khartoum - A cargo plane has crashed near Khartoum airport, reports said Monday.

The BBC said that five people were believed to be onboard and eyewitnesses reported a large explosion in a residential area.

Sudan has a poor air safety record and this was the second crash inside a month.

Thirty people died this month when a Sudan Airways jet burst into flames after landing at Khartoum airport. (dpa)
