Car loans register a rise of 17% in the last fiscalThe last fiscal may be labelled as one of the best in the history of the Indian automakers with the companies filing record sales month after month but the automotive industry isn't the one leveraging from the same.

For instance, the car loans segment grew by 18% in the 2009-10 fiscal standing tall at the Rs 33,000 crore levels which was a considerable rise as compared to the Rs 28,000 crore in the previous year. In fact, HDFC bank which is considered to be one of the topmost contenders for the top slot in this category, registered a rise of 45 per cent in this segment standing at Rs 11,000 crore.

The bank contributed almost one-third to the total market during the last fiscal. Riding on a high banking on factors like easy financing and low excise duty, the passenger car industry filed a rise of 25.6 per cent jump in 2009-10 at 19,49,776 units, compared with 15,52,703 units in 2008-09. However, with the central government already taking back a part of the stimulus package and the auto majors announcing three rounds of hikes in the Indian market, analysts are certain that the current fiscal may not be that fruitful for the lending industry.
