Californian Surrogate Pregnant with Triplets sues Father to keep One or All Babies
In California, a surrogate pregnant with triplets has decided to sue father to keep one or all of the babies, which are not linked to her. After receiving support by a famous anti-choice lawyer, the surrogate mother-to-be will sue the genetic father.
She has claimed that the man’s alleged wish to terminate one of the fetuses allows her to take one of the babies, all of which are not related to her. She said that if he won’t agree, then she will keep all of them.
While speaking to The Daily Beast, Melissa Cook said that she is ready to take all. She added that she is feeling bad for the father, but at the same time, she thinks how somebody can have such disregard for human life.
Cook said she no longer favors surrogacy. In her legal complaint, she would claim that both, she and the fetuses, have become the victims of what is, in effect, called baby-selling, said the mother-to-be.
Already, the 47-year-old woman is a traditional mother to 4 children, including a previous set of triplets. Presently, she is 23 weeks pregnant with the triplets produced from the sperm of single Georgia man and a 20-year-old donor’s eggs.
On Monday, she filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court saying that the lack of a genetic tie must have no bearing on the status of Cook as the mother.
The complaint reads, “The bonding process between the pregnant mother and the children she carries during the nine months of pregnancy is the same physical process and experience, whether or not the mother is genetically related to the children”.
It mentioned that the bonding process is psychological and physiological both, and can’t be wished away. The bond can be prevented or diminished with the presence of a written surrogacy agreement or any of the expressed promises or intentions.
