California Safety Board votes down Proposal that asks for Condoms in Porn Movies

On Thursday, California officials liable for workplace safety put down a proposal that would have put condoms on porn actors, paying attention to the call of number of industry officials according to whom such a move would pressurize them to make films nobody would watch.

Cal/Osha spokeswoman Julia Bernstein said that the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health's Standards Board put down the measure when just three members backed it. For the passage, there was a requirement of four ‘yes’ votes from the seven-member board. During the voting, 3-2 was in favor, with one member was absent and a board position was presently open.

Bernstein said that the board is now going to start considering a fresh worker-safety measure for the porn industry.

Board members were apparently influenced by the huge numbers of representatives of porn industry, who filed to the dais at the time of a public hearing in Oakland, California, to keep their point forcefully but politely that the condom measure adoption would either vanish their multibillion-industry or make it go underground. They said that doing the latter may make it more unsafe for performers by eradicating safeguards, including the requirement of the industry that needs actors get tested every two weeks for sexually transmitted diseases.

Porn actress SiouxsieQ, who also writes about the industry for different publications, said, “I know you guys work really hard and have our best interests at stake, but we need you to work with us to find a solution. When you criminalize sex work in any way, you make it more dangerous”.

Mike Stabile, the Free Speech Coalition’s spokesman, said post the vote that pornographers hope they can work closely in the coming time with the safety requirements that can be accepted by the industry. He didn’t mention what those might be.
