BHEL Posts Marginal Growth In Q3 Net Profit

Marginal Increase In BHEL Q3 Net IncomeBharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has announced its financial results for the third quarter of current financial year.

India’s largest power equipment manufacturer has posted a marginal 2.4 percent growth in net profit for Q3 ended December 31, 2008 on account of high raw material costs and increased wage revision.

Its net profit stood at Rs 790.56 crore against Rs 771.90 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2007.

More price dips awaited by Indian gold buyers

Indian gold buyers Following the yellow metal's recent rise to three-month high, on Thursday India's gold futures extended losses for a second day on profit-taking.

Debjyoti Chatterjee, associate vice-president with MAPE ADMISI Commodities in Mumbai said, "An absolute decline in demand from India would also weigh on prices."

In January 2009, India's gold imports dropped more than 90% to just 1.2 tonnes, from 18 tonnes during the same month last year, in the midst of high prices and ample stocks. The news came from Bombay Bullion Association on Thursday.

OMCs asked Kingfisher to clear dues Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have threatened to stop supply of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) to Kingfisher Airlines by midnight, in case, the carrier remains fail to clear its dues worth Rs 158 crore.

It should be recalled that oil marketing companies have already decided to supply ATF to private carriers Kingfisher and Jet Airways on 'cash and carry basis' from January 27. These carriers have been found defaulter of non-payment of oil dues for October 22 to October 31, even after crossing of 90-day credit period.

Steelmakers have struggled to keep up the sales, as a global credit crisis has hit the demand of major steel-consuming industries producing automotives, consumer goods and construction material.

Global steel production has tumbled by 24 percent in the last quarter of 2008.

Petrol PumpThe Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs, under the chairmanship of foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee, is meeting on Wednesday to discuss reduction in fuel prices. It may take final decision on much awaited reduction of prices of petroleum products on accounts of decline in crude rates in the international market.

Prices of petrol can be reduced by Rs 4 a litre, diesel by Rs 1 per litre and cooking gas LPG by Rs 25 a cylinder, much lower than expected by transporters and general public of the country.

CEAT tyres to set up radial plant at Halol, GujaratRPG Enterprises owned CEAT tyres laid the foundation stone of a radial tyre plant worth Rs 700 crore at Halol, near Baroda in Gujarat. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit (VGGIS) in Ahmedabad on January 13.

The chairman of RPG Enterprises Group, Harsha Goenka said that the first phase of plant would be operational by May 2010. The state of Gujarat is also celebrating its foundation day on the same day.
