Bush's Texas presidential library may fail to reach planned goals

Bush's Texas presidential library may fail to reach planned goalsObservers say that George W. Bush's Texas presidential library is set for groundbreaking in the fall but may not have reached its fundraising goal of $300 million.

The Dallas Morning News reported on Sunday that in early 2009 sources in the Bush Foundation said they'd passed the $100 million level, and the same sources claimed $200 million by November.

The newspaper further said that the foundation has yet to file financial reports past 2008, when federal tax filing showed it had $23.1 million on hand.

Foundation officials declined to say what the present total is.

Mark Langdale, president of the Bush Foundation, said, "We're on schedule with everything, the building design, the fundraising. We're pleased with our programs."

The non-profit foundation will pay the construction costs for the facility on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

The Morning News also said that SMU was among a number of Texas colleges and universities competing to be the site of the future library, and was selected in February 2008. (With Inputs from Agencies)
