Islamabad, Nov 16 (ANI): A majority of Pakistanis are frustrated with the prevailing upheaval in their country, and have coined a new term for the US -- Busharraf.

Many in Pakistan want the Bush Administration to support the Musharraf regime, the Washington Post reports.

"Why isn't the U. S. standing up for Pakistan when we need it most? Is America even listening to us? We are calling them Busharraf now. They are the same man, " said Parveen Aslam, 30, who like many Pakistanis has his relatives in America.

Aslam has a strong penchant for the US, as he says, “Give me Tom Cruise and a vacation in Florida any day. "

For many Pakistanis the Bush Administration is seen as the only strong force that can do what is necessary to temper the crisis in Pakistan.

They feel that it is high time that the US pressurise the military-led government in Pakistan to restore the Constitution, release thousands of political prisoners and lift restrictions on the media.

"Let's just say the visit is better late than ever, " Lieutenant General (retired)Talat Masood said on Negroponte's trip, adding, "The U. S. is saying what they should have said a long time ago. "

“The detention of political opponents is among the many factors causing the Pakistani public to lose patience with Musharraf, whose approval ratings have dropped to dismal levels. But patience with Musharraf's U. S. backers is also wearing thin, ” the daily said in its analysis.

Pakistanis share a complicated relationship with the United States, as many of them see Bush's "war on terrorism" as a war on Islam. But, at the same time, they view the US as a source of prestige and prosperity. (ANI)
