The software giant Microsoft, while announcing the release of Service Pack 2 for Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 last week, warned the users about a bug introduced in its SharePoint business software through a service pack update, which makes the application expired after 180 days – the bug shuts down the application after 180 days.   

In its blog, the Microsoft SharePoint Team has cautioned users about the bug. The corporate vice president at Microsoft SharePoint, Jeff Teper has said that Service Pack 2 (SP2) deployed for SharePoint Server 2007 had a bug.

The Microsoft SharePoint Team has written that the bug activates the product’s end date during the installation of SP2 and causes the expiration of the application after trial installation of 180 days.  

Teper said that the software will not be will not affect customer's data, configuration or application code but will render SharePoint inaccessible for end-users.

“Furthermore, product expiration 180 days after SP2 installation will not affect customer’s data, configuration or application code, but will render SharePoint inaccessible for end-users,” he said. Teper told that Microsoft is working on a hotfix and public update for the product.
