Budapest''s oldest gorilla goes under the knife
London, Jan 17 : A gorilla in Hungary had to undergo a rare lifesaving surgery to remove a rapidly spreading tumour.
For the first of its kind surgery, the 32-year-old lowland gorilla, named Liesel, was given a King Kong-sized shot of anaesthetic, reports the Mirror.
Liesel, the oldest gorilla at Budapest Zoo, went through a three-hour long operation.
During the surgery, the doctors, assisted by veterinarians, also checked fibroids in Liesel's uterus, which is anatomically similar to that in the human female body. (ANI)
