Budapest prosecutor to proceed with Nazi film hate case
Budapest - The Budapest prosecutor's office said Tuesday that it was pressing on with a hate-crime investigation into the showing of the Nazi-era anti-Semitic propaganda film Jud Suess (The Jew Suess), denying earlier reports that the case had been halted.
The prosecutor was denying a Tuesday morning report in the left- wing daily Nepszava, Hungary's MTI news agency reported.
The prosecutor had allowed an objection to the status of suspect being applied to two of the men being investigated.
The two would no longer be considered suspects in the investigation, a fact that the newspaper had misunderstood, the prosecutor's office said.
The prosecutor would also proceed with a copyright-violation case. The film's copyright belongs to the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation in the German city of Wiesbaden.
Right-wing extremists showed the film in July in a Budapest basement and charged admission without permission from the German foundation. (dpa)
