Brooks given all-clear to compete at world athletics championships

Sheri-Ann BrooksKingston - Jamaican sprinter Sheri-Ann Brooks will compete in the world athletics championships in Berlin later this month after being cleared of a doping offence by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission's (JADCO) disciplinary committee.

Brooks tested positive for the banned stimulant methylxanthine at the national championships in June but escapes a ban due to irregularities with her B-sample.

"We had a meeting with Ms Sheri-Ann Brooks today and we were unable to impose a sanction on her, as there was an irregularity with the testing of the B-sample that was raised by her counsel," disciplinary committee head Kent Gammon explained Wednesday.

Brooks, winner of the 100m gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, is one of five Jamaican athletes to test positive at the national championships.

Alodin Fothergill, Yohan Blake, Lansford Spence and Marvin Anderson also face disciplinary hearings Friday into their failed tests. (dpa)
