Brits denied of cancer drugs to save money
According to the recently uncovered report Britons are being denied access to drugs crucial in cancer cure in lieu of money.
The report released by the Department of Health pressurizes the Government to speed-up on the proposal to offer 200 million pounds as cancer fund that aims to offer patients drugs which are not currently approved for NHS use.
Cancer specialist Karol Sikora from Cancer Partners UK stated: "It is high time we had a review of access to new drugs. However, I doubt that the 200million pound cancer fund would make us as good as the best countries in the report. We would need around £billion to achieve that," reports The Daily Express.
He added that the victims of Alzheimer's, Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid Arthritis are also deprived off the drugs which need to be pondered upon. It has further been added that at the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence or NICE has supposedly hindered a batch of medicines, on basis of high cost issues.
NICE claims to have denied the access for the bowel cancer drug Avastin, and Nexavar. The organization claims that the drugs can alleviate symptoms at the same time NHS cannot afford them due to price concerns.
It was noted that these drugs should be shipped in urgent notice as for some patients even a few months delay can be a risk for life.
