Brit Conservative MP David Cameron broke four road laws in 22 minutes
London, Mar 22 : Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition in the UK, David Cameron, broke four road laws in just 22 minutes, and is being given a humiliating lecture by police safety chiefs over his risky cycling.
Metropolitan chiefs called him “very stupid” after the Daily Mirror filmed him breaking four road laws - including going past a red light.
The UK Police said that Cameron was lucky to escape punishment for the offence.
“He should know that it's part of his role as a man who wants to be Prime Minister to set the very highest standards of behaviour. We're not going to pursue him over this matter,” the daily quoted a senior police official, as saying.
“But if an officer had seen him do what he has been photographed doing, the officer would have been fully entitled to stop him and quite likely hand him a ticket or a fine,” the official added.
According to the sources, Cameron would be given tips on safe riding.
“Cycling the wrong way up a one-way street is very stupid and we get accidents every day in central London that happen just like that. He should be pleased we're taking an interest in his welfare. If he cycles like this, he's certain to be in an accident before very long,” sources said.
Tory London mayor hopeful Boris Johnson said that there should be zero tolerance if any cyclist breaks the rules.
Labour MP Steve Pound said: "David Cameron aspires to make the laws of the land but can't uphold them."
Meanwhile, the red-faced Tory leader, who has made much of his enthusiasm for cycling to underscore his green credentials, was forced to release an apology statement.
He said: “I know it is important to obey traffic laws - but I have obviously made mistakes on this occasion and I am sorry.” (ANI)
