Bomb threat postpones flight at Hokkaido airport
Tokyo - A bomb threat was reported Tuesday afternoon at New Chitose Airport in northern Hokkaido, where the world's seven largest economies and Russia are gathered to discuss global issues.
A man in his 70s made a scene in a passenger plane as it was ready for a takeoff at New Chitose Airport, saying that his luggage contained a bomb.
Some 215 passengers and crew members were forced to get off the plane bound for Haneda Airport in central Japan.
Police found no bomb in the plane, and the flight was postponed for about three hours.
The man reportedly told a flight attendant his story as the plane was ready to enter a runway, Jiji Press reported.
Police were questioning the man, who appeared to be drunk.
Leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States are holding the summit meeting at Toyako, about a two-hour drive away from New Chitose Airport. (dpa)
