BMW Launches '5 Series' From Chennai FacilityLuxury car manufacturer BMW has introduced its 5 Series sedans from the Chennai facility.

The company said that the delivery in the Indian market will start by the July end.

In his lecture, Juergen Eder, BMW Plant Managing Director stated that deliveries of the new 5 Series at a cost between Rs 38.9 lakh and Rs 58 lakh (ex-showroom) will start by the end of this month.

''The BMW 5 Series is the core product in our model range and has significantly contributed to the image and success of BMW in India... We are confident that the new BMW 5 Series produced in Chennai will further increase our momentum in the Indian luxury car segment,'' Eder said.

The novel BMW 5 Series was rolled out in India on April 30, 2010 in Mumbai with two petrol editions - 535i and 523i and two diesel variants - 530d and 525d.

The German firm showed that it would boost its production capability at its Chennai facility as it eyed sales of more than 4,000 units in 2010.

BMW India President Peter Kronschnabl said, ''In 2010, we aim to achieve double digit growth. In absolute numbers, we want to achieve sales of over 4,000 units.''

With its sales objective surpassing production capacity at the Chennai plant, BMW was looking to raise output shortly.

He said the increase in manpower at the Chennai plant will be done to cater to the needs of assembling the SUV X1, which will be launched in India later this year, adding the focus will include Tier II cities. (With Inputs from Agencies)
