Blockade in Imphal on the visit of Naga Leader

Thuigaleng MuivahA huge mass of people from various parts of Manipur had participated in the protest rally by The All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers and Pullers Welfare Association (AMRDPWA) on Saturday. This rally was organized to protest the visit of Naga leader Thuigaleng Muivah.

As an extension of this protest rally, the All Naga Students Association (ANSAM) has taken another step by blocking the major National Highway 39 since April 11, leading Manipur as an isolated place. As a result of this blockade, Manipur suffers from a severe shortage of commodities and almost the life has come to a halt. Basanta Singh, Secretary of AMRDPWA said that their members belong to labor class and they are poor enough to bear the consequences of ongoing economic obstruction which is supplemented by the proposed visit by Muivah's.

Sources revealed that Muivah had scheduled his visit to his birth place Somdal in Ukhrul District in the beginning of this month which was marked cancelled by the state government in the anticipation that it might add fuel to the demand for including Naga dominated areas of Manipur in the proposed Nagalingam or Greater Nagaland.

However, the central government is planning for second round of talks with National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) leadership in Nagaland to conclude the standoff of Muivah's to visit his birth place. It has been since 13 years of Naga peace process, this is the first time when a peace talk of this kind will be organized in Nagaland given that previously all the official dialogue between the two sides were held either in Delhi or abroad to reach the praiseworthy agreement for the extended Naga Political conflict.
