It is a common sight to watch more number of women shivering in offices due to air conditioners. Now, a research has been done on the topic. As per the research, men should be blamed for the plight to be faced by women.

As per researchers, men who have set the building temperatures are at fault. Thermostats in most offices have been set as per the men’s needs years ago and since then no changes have been made to them even when women started working in offices.

Study researchers have affirmed that the office temperature is set as per formulas meant for employees’ thermal comfort, based on factors like air temperature, radiant temperature, humidity, airspeed and clothing worn.

On the other hand, thermostats for buildings are based on old standards only that are meant for men’s body heat production. The research published in the journal Nature Climate Change has unveiled that most of the office buildings have set their temperatures on the basis of a decades-old formulas set as per the metabolic rates for men.

After considering factors like size, weight, age, type of work and sex, the researchers said that there were many reasons as to why women think that their office environment is chillier in comparison to men working with them.

After testing 16 women, it was found that the women’s average metabolic rate was 20 to 32% lower than the rate being set at most building temperatures.
