BlackBerry10 OS’ virtual keyboard to support Hindi langauge

BlackBerry10 OS’ virtual keyboard to support Hindi langaugeAccording to a Firstpost report, BlackBerry is apparently looking to attract customers in India; with the company having recently announced that the virtual keyboard of its newly-released BlackBerry 10 (BB10) operating system will add support for Hindi language later this year.

The report - citing the details shared by Vivek Bhardwaj, BlackBerry's Global Head of the Software Portfolio - said that the new BB10 keyboard will support three languages that 'can be used on-the-fly;' with the advantage of auto-correwcting the three simultaneously. The users will have the option of selecting any three languages from the 32 international languages available for the BB10 virtual keyboard.

Noting that typing in Hindi will soon become a reality, thanks to BB10 virtual keyboard's support for the language, the report said that the device will not only support content, essentially reading, in eight Indian languages - including Devanagiri (Hindi), Gurmukhi (Punjabi), Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, and Gujarati - but will also have support for third-party solutions for Indian language input.

With no Indian language currently featuring in the list of languages supported by the virtual keyboard on the BlackBerry Z10 - which was launched with the release of the new BlackBerry Z10 smartphone -, the revelation that the virtual keyboard will soon support Hindu language is apparently a strategic move which will likely boost BlackBerry sales among rural and semi-urban customers whose first choice is Hindi.
