New Delhi, June 20 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that the threat by the Left allies to withdraw support to the ruling Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) over the nuke deal is hallow.

Party president, Rajnath Singh speaking to reporters on Friday in New Delhi said that the communist allies have been issuing such threats over the past four years but have never executed them after having tasted power.

“I don't think the Left will withdraw its support to the Government. Since the past four years they have been threatening the government on pretexts like nuke deal or inflation but have never carried it out. I think they (Left parties) have got a taste of the power, they know how it feels like. They will not withdraw support,” said Singh.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has of late been reportedly trying to push the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Experts say this could lead to early elections for which the UPA allies seem to be reluctant in the backdrop of galloping inflation.

Meanwhile, at a public platform in New Delhi on Friday, General Secretary of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Prakash Karat without making any reference to the standoff on the Indo-US nuclear deal, expressed hope that the coalition government would last its full term.

“We are hoping that this government will continue its full term. We are trying to make serious efforts. Sometime back, the Prime Minister said we are not a one issue government,” said Karat.

The Left parties have been threatening to withdraw support to the government if it went ahead to finalise the India-specific safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which they said would put the Indo-US deal on autopilot with India having little say in it. (ANI)
