BJP MLA bribery case closed
In Bangalore, the case against BJP MLA representing Kolar Gold Fields Y Sampangi is now dismissed by the special House committee, citing reasons that there was not enough evidence gathered and no inference could hence be drawn.
The special committee comprising of 7 members had been set up in order to look into the allegations of bribery against the minister. The committee was headed by deputy Speaker K G Bopaiah (now Speaker).
The speaker also recommended the government that strict action should be taken against complainant Husain Muheen Farooq as he tried to defame the BJP MLA by bringing in this false case.
Farooq was served 3 notices to prove his charges but failed to appear in front of the court. No suitable evidence was available against the MLA and hence the committee could not reach the conclusion that whether Sampangi had committed any act of indiscipline or not. The head committee member also said that Farooq had disobeyed the committee and should be charged with contempt of court charges.
Sampangi was charged with charges of accepting a 5 lakh bribe in January 2009. Jagadish Shettar then speaker had setup the committee to look into the matter.
