Zagreb - Croatia's national team coach Slaven Bilic has turned down the Schalke 04 coaching job.

Bilic, 40, told a news conference in Zagreb he had been approached by the German Bundesliga club to succeed Dutchman Fred Rutten who was dismissed on Thursday.

Bilic said he regarded the offer as "a great honour" but he was remaining coach of Croatia. (dpa)
