Bihar Govt orders judicial probe into Bhagalpur police firing
Patna, Jan 19 : Bihar Government today ordered a judicial inquiry into police firing on protestors, who were demanding continuous power supply in Bhagalpur District.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also ordered suspension of SDO S N Srivastava and Deputy SP B N Jha.
At least three people have reportedly been killed in police firing on protestors in Bhagalpur in the last two days.
One person was killed today when the police opened fire on a crowd demanding continuous power supply for Kahalgaon area turned violent and attacked police personnel.
A student was killed in police firing on Friday, while another injured succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
The residents of Kahalgaon have been staging protest at the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant here since Friday morning to lodge their protests against acute power cuts in the area.
Last year, a similar shutdown was organised in Bhagalpur and Purnea for the same reason. Gaya was brought to standstill by the protestors.
The State has been passing through unprecedented power-crisis for the last many months. (ANI)
