Bharti Yadav, daughter of Uttar Pradesh politician and former minister DP Yadav will marry Gurgaon-based Yatin Rao (27), an executive with a multinational company and son of a Haryana government official, on November 1.

Bharti was allegedly the girlfriend of Nitish Katara, who was murdered in 2002. Her brothers Vikas and Vishal Yadav were held guilty and convicted with life imprisonment for killing Nitish Katara, a multinational executive.

Yatin’s mother is a lecturer in a government college in Gurgaon while his sister is studying.

The family lives in Sector 31 of Gurgaon. The groom’s family has said that the wedding will be a simple ceremony which will be solemnised at a farm house called Jhankar on M-G Road in New Delhi, on November 1.

Low-key ceremony

The ‘lagan’ ceremony was performed at a restaurant — Vatika Grand — in Sector 29 of Gurgaon on Monday, away from the prying eyes of the media.

Those who attended the ceremony from Bharti’s family included her father DP Yadav and her sister Bhawana.

Bharti’s brother Vikas Yadav was missing from the ceremony.

Vikas is serving a life term in jail in connection with the murder of Nitish Katara — the MBA son of an IAS officer — in 2002.

The family was reportedly opposed to Katara’s intimacy with Bharti.

Vikas Yadav would, however, attend the marriage ceremony as the court has allowed him to do so with a police escort.

According to Dr J N Singh Yadav, maternal grandfather of Yatin, also known as Vicky among friends, both families had known each other for more than 20 years and had very close ties.

“It was only after both Yatin and Bharti gave their consent that the match was finalised.

“Both families are very happy. However, we would like to keep the marriage function very simple. Even the lagan ceremony on Monday was a simple affair in Gurgaon,” Dr Yadav said.

Yatin did his MBA from a private management college in Sector 56 and joined American Express in New Delhi in early 2008.

His sister Pooja Rao has done her MSc from Delhi University. Their mother Dr Krishna Yadav is a lecturer at Government College in Gurgaon while their father Raj Kumar Yadav is an assistant collector in Bhiwani district and also holds additional charge of district mining officer.

According to Yatin’s grandfather, who is also the general secretary of All India Yadav Mahasabha, the family belongs to neighboring Mahendergarh district and has been living in Gurgaon for more than 10 years.

Dr Yadav said, “Even the lagan was a simple ceremony on Monday when a number of politicians from Southern Haryana participated. These included Congress MLA from Badhsahpur constituency, Rao Dharampal, and former Congress MLA, Dharambir Gauba. We had invited only 100 persons but the number crossed 150.”
