Bezos might acquire The Washington Post

Bezos might acquire The Washington PostJeffrey P. Bezos, the founder and chief executive of Amazon. com, might be planning to acquire The Washington Post to expand his presence in the publication industry.

It is believed that Bezos will acquire the newspaper company in a deal valued at $250 million. The Washington Post has recorded years of falling revenues and circulation and this is not likely to change soon.

Mr. Bezoshas indicated that there will be change at The Post over the coming years as there is a need to experiment with new areas. Several newspapers are aiming to generate increased online revenue in order to make-up for the loss of circulation and publication revenues. The Posthas done some experimentation with the release of a social reader for Facebook and a recommendation engine called Trove.

The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, The New York Times and The Post have also worked on various pay plans for their online readers to build relationships and expand their online revenues. Some have also developed created mobile apps and made significant investments in online video to gain advertising revenues. The New Yorker and Vogue have completely digitalised and sold sections of their archives to the investors.
