Belgian government offers resignation
Brussles - The five-party coalition of Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme was on the brink of collapse after Leterme submitted his resignation to King Albert II, the Belgian news agency Belga reported early Tuesday.
The agency quoted Finance Minister and Deputy Premier Didier Reynders in its story.
The government of the Christian Democratic government head was unable to find common ground on a reform plan within a designated deadline, but the contributing factor was the ongoing cultural differences between the Dutch-speaking Flemish people and the French- speaking Walloons.
The government has only been in power since earlier this year. (dpa)
