New Delhi, Mar. 3: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed shock over the attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore, claiming lack of security measures in Pakistan to be the main reason behind the mishap.

“What has happened is very shocking indeed. We express our heartfelt sympathy for players injured in the attack,” said N. Srinivasan, secretary of BCCI.

Six Sri Lankan cricketers have been injured in a firing near Gaddafi stadium in Lahore, Pakistan. The injured players include, Ajantha Mendis, Tharanga Paranavitana, Thilan Samaraweera, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.

They have been taken to a hospital in the city.

“We have been saying that there was a lack of security and safety in Pakistan. But this is not the time to give statements on that. At the moment our concerns are only for the Sri Lankan players,” Srinivasan said.

In December 2008, India had called off its Pakistan tour in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks.

Later, Sri Lanka agreed to replace India and split their tour in two visits -- playing the three-match one-day series in January followed by the two Tests.

Now, Sri Lanka''s tour of Pakistan has been cancelled, and team has been called back. (ANI)
