BCCI Decides to pay Team Selectors

At the working committee meeting on Saturday, the BCCI took the decision to have paid selection committees for the junior and senior women’s and national senior teams.

The formation of the paid selection committees will happen immediately if it is approved at the board’s AGM on 27th and 28th September.

An annual amount of Rs. 25 lakh each will be given to the five members of men’s selection committee as retainership and for the junior selection committee members and women’s team selectors, this amount would be Rs 15 lakh and Rs. 5 lakh respectively.

The committee after the three hours of long meeting came to the conclusion that an office-bearer of the BCCI or any of its affiliated units can’t be a selector.

One of the member who attended the meeting informed, “We wanted the selection panel to be completely transparent and unbiased.” The committee also instructed that a former player can only become a selector after he has completed 10 years of his retirement.

The decision which was welcomed by the members is till has to be implemented by the state associations and it remains in question whether they would do that to select their respective teams. Other than this, the reaction of the current selectors to the proposed conditions is also awaited.
