BCCI appoints Srikkanth as the new chief selector
Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth as the new chairman of the National Senior Cricket Selection Committee.
Srikkanth was appointed as the chief selector at the BCCI's 79th Annual General Meeting. He had replaced Dilip Vengsarkar at the helm of affairs. The other four selectors appointed in the meeting were Raja Venkat (East Zone), Surendra Bhave (West Zone), Narendra Hirwani (Central Zone) and Yashpal Sharma (North Zone).
The board also decided to appoint former pace bowler Abui Kuruvilla as the chief of the junior selection panel committee. Sanjay Desai (South Zone), Sanjeev Sharma (North Zone), Rajesh Bora (East Zone) and RS Hans (Central Zone) has also been appointed as the other junior selectors in the two-day meeting.
Sharad Pawar has been succeeded by Shashank Manohar as the new board president at the AGM, while Rajiv Shukla was elected as chairman of the finance committee.
The AGM also decided to elect N Srinivasan as the secretary of the board. Sanjay Jagdale became the new joint secretary and MP Pandove will be the new treasurer. According to the reliable sources, Shivlal Yadav, Chirayu Amin, Arindam Ganguly, Arun Jaitley and Lalit Modi were elected unopposed as the five Vice-Presidents of the board.
Interestingly, former BCCI President, Jagmohan Dalmiya also attended the AGM for the first time since 2005.
