Bayern Munich join chase for Hamburg striker Olic
Hamburg - Bayern Munich have joined the list of clubs interested in signing SV Hamburg's Croatia striker Ivica Olic, according to a report to appear in Germany's Bild newspaper.
The German champions have made a firm offer for the player who has also been linked in various media reports with moves to Juventus, Valencia, Villareal and Liverpool, Bild reports.
The mass-circulation daily, in its edition to appear Tuesday, quotes Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as saying Olic would make a perfect partner for strikers Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose.
"We will be doing everything to get him next season," he was quoted as saying.
However, Olic's agent, Gordon Stipic, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa Monday he knew nothing about any interest from Bayern.
"It was Valencia the day before yesterday, Juventus yesterday, Bayern today and tomorrow Madrid and Barcelona. I don't want to comment any more on this speculation," he said.
Last week Germany's Kicker sports magazine reported that Olic, 29, had a contract ready to sign from Juventus in what would be a free transfer next summer.
However this was later dismissed by Stipic, who said he would be sitting down with the player and his family over Christmas to discuss his future.
"This is about SV Hamburg and we will be informing them what decision has been made," he said.
Hamburg have made an improved contract offer, and local reports say the club will me meeting the player for new talks in the winter break.
"We have made Ivica a very good offer. Hopefully he will decide in our favour and extend his contract," Hamburg coach Martin Jol told Welt online last week.
"The grass is green everywhere but for Ivica it is greener in Hamburg. I think he appreciates what he has at this club and in this city." (dpa)
