Bangladesh plans fuel price cut next week
Dhaka- Bangladesh's interim government plans to reduce the fuel price by 8 to 12 per cent in the wake of the crude oil price fall on the global market, an official said Tuesday.
The decision will be finalised at a meeting of the council of advisers to be headed by the chief adviser to the interim government of Fakhruddin Ahmed sometime next week, he said.
"As the price of fuel oil has significantly come down on the international market, the government took up the move to adjust it," M Tamim, an assistant to the chief adviser who heads the energy and mineral resources, told reporters.
Mostly dependent on fuel imports for domestic consumption, Bangladesh had raised the price between 34 and 60 per cent to adjust it with the international price.
But with the drastic fall of the oil price over the last couple of weeks, the authorities have been mulling further price readjustment.
The international market saw a record fall of crude oil prices to about 70 US dollars per barrel. (dpa)
