Bangalore tops the list for quality of living in India
According to a new study, Bangalore provides higher level of quality of living to its residents compared to other major Indian cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
The survey conducted by Mercer of 221 global cities showed that Bangalore was on the 139th position this year compared to 141 in 2011. Bangalore was the best Indian city on the list ahead of New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and finally, Kolkata. However, Mumbai scored higher in infrastructure parameters, according to the Mercer's 2012 Quality of Living Index.
The survey, which is conducted every year, ranks the living conditions in cities on the basis of 39 parameters such as political and social environment, socio-cultural environment as well as medical and educational facilities. The survey also included infrastructure this year with aspects such as water, electricity, communication services, public transportation, and intra-city and international connectivity.
The survey forms the basis for many multinational firms to base their employees and determine compensation according to the quality of life. Employers usually pay lesser allowance to employees residing in cities that are ranked higher on the list.
"Bangalore's rise in its quality of living ranking can be attributed to positive ratings for international schools which are suitable for expatriates," the report said.
