Banerjee awarded with Mohun Bagan Ratna
The former footballer Samar Banerjee has been awarded with the Mohun Bagan club's highest award 'Mohun Bagan Ratna' in Mohun Bagan Day function at the Kolkata on Wednesday.
Banerjee led Indian footfall to semi-finals of the Melbourne Olympics in 1965. He also represented Mohun Bagan club for seven years during which the club lifted titles of all major tournaments.
Former famous footballers P K Banerjee, Chuni Goswami and Sailen Manna presented award to Banerjee, genius attacker of 1950s, in the glittering ceremony. Almost all of the former and current Bagan players were present at the ceremony.
After receiving the award Banerjee said that this was biggest moment in his life and he felt proud to be captain of the Bagan team in his career.
Bagan won the IFA Shield in 1911 after defeating British team East York Regiment 2-1 in the final on this day. Mohun Bagan Day is observed every year to celebrate this victory.
