Bandh Protest In Manipur For Monika
Manipur has still not given up its rage against the Chairman of Indian Olympic Association Chairman, Suresh Kalmadi and Director of SAI, R.K. Naidu and weightlifter Shailaja Pujari, for exempting Monika Devi form the Olympics. The protestors burnt tyres and effigies of the names mentioned above (not Monika), in the Imphal valley and surrounding places like Lilong in Thoubal district and thus marked a 24 hours bandh on Tuesday afternoon.
During this 24 hour bandh, which was called by the Co-ordinating Committee to support L.Monika, who is thought to be excluded from Beining Olympics due to manipulation and Conspiracy, the bandh supporters and sport lovers burnt tyres and effigies of the people responsible for Monika’a state. Slogans like “We condemn the policy of SAI” were shouted out loud by the supporters.
Meanwhile, Monika Devi, who was forced to miss the Olympics due to bungled dope teat, too had been appealing for justice. She has threatened that if in case the officials responsible behind this dirty politics are not punished, she will not participate in any national or international event. According to her she was “wrongly accused” and thus it also affected her reputation. The 69kg category lifter feels that she was a victim of politics in sports.
She reported, “I could not take part in the Olympic games as a result of politics in Indian sports. All those who are responsible for framing false charges against me must be pulled up and given befitting punishment.”
The dejected and broken Monika literally had tears in her eyes when she retuned from New Delhi yesterday, and said that she could never ever think that there can be such dirty politics in Indian sport.
Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) had earlier decided that if Monika is not given justice then the state would never participate in any national championship and the coming National games.
