Ban on using terms ‘Climate Change’, ‘Global Warming’ Irresponsible: Tyson

Neil DeGrasse Tyson, American astrophysicist and science communicator, is known for his knowledge about science and space. The cosmologist has revealed many interesting facts about science. Now, the famous astrophysicist has commented on Florida ban on saying 'climate change' and 'global warming'. According to Tyson, the ban by the state is irresponsible.

Earlier, Florida governor Rick Scott said that he has not ordered to stop using the terms. In Sarasota, while addressing a crowd at Ringling College, Tyson said that it is not possible to 'cherrypick' science. According to Tyson, global warming cannot be avoided for political reasons.

Tyson said, "The National Academy of Sciences, created by Abraham Lincoln in 1763, was conceived to advise the executive branch and Congress on scientific matters so that they can make informed policy decisions". What the organization was not created to do was make space for questions about whether facts about science were reliable, the cosmologist added.

He said that such organizations were not established so that some politicians could decide what type of words should be spoken. According to Tyson, politicians have no right to decide what people can say and what they cannot.

Tyson said that it is good that people in America have disagreement about politics and religion. That is the reason why America exists, he added. He said when such conflicts create debate about whether humans are influencing climate change, politicians are not only wasting people's time but wasting their time too.

According to Tyson, today is the time where people have been cherry picking science. They should know that science is not political, he added. Tyson did not blame Scott, he said that voters of America are the ones who truly influence policy and create those 'swaths of people' in denial over global warming.
